In this article, we will give you tips on how to avoid boredom on a long trip. It isn’t always easy to do so. But there are ways to entertain yourself and whoever you’re traveling with. So keep reading to see our long road trips tips.

If you’ve ever been on a long trip, you know that there are times when time seems to not pass. You get bored and if you’re traveling with children it’s even worse. Children get bored much easier and you need to find ways to distract them.

Luckily, there are several ways to enjoy your long trips and to entertain both children and adults. So, what can you do to avoid boredom during long trips? We made a list of fun activities you could do both if you travel alone or with other people.

Here are our long road trips tips:

Take pictures

This applies to you if you’re not driving obviously. If you’re a passenger, get your phone or your camera out and shoot some amazing pictures!

We love taking pictures during long road trips. The scenery can be breathtaking and when you’re trying to take pictures, you’re more likely to see things you wouldn’t notice usually.

Record a video

Pictures are great, but videos are able to capture a lot more. Grab your camera and start filming. You could film your surroundings but also yourself and your travel companions.

You’ll also enjoy re-watching the videos once you come back home. This is our favorite part. Watching the videos we shoot during our travels is great! And we can also share them with friends or family.

Play games

This one works wonderfully when you travel with kids. Playing games is a great way to entertain yourself and avoid boredom.

There are lots of games you could play like I Spy or 20 questions. Or you could invent a new game. There are no set rules, just have fun!

Listen to music/Sing

A classic road trip activity is singing with your family or friends. You can also do it when you travel alone. Singing solo is also great for your mood.

Turn up the music in the car and sing at the top of your lungs. It’s super fun and the time will pass by really fast.

Listen to audiobooks

If you’re traveling solo, listening to an audiobook can be very entertaining. You could also listen to audiobooks when traveling with other people. But in that case, you should find an audiobook that all want to hear.

There are many book genres out there so everyone can find one they’re interested in. Whether you like fiction, non-fiction, fantasy, or biographies, there is an audiobook version for you too.

Listen to podcasts

Just like with audiobooks, you can find podcasts about everything. There are news podcasts, comedy podcasts, food podcasts, business podcasts, and so on. Anything you’re interested in, there is probably a podcast on that subject.

We love listening to marketing-related podcasts and wellness podcasts. But you can search online for the topics you’re interested in and you’ll find some great options to listen to while you travel.

Learn a new language

You can improve your language skills by listening to an audio course or watching a show with subtitles. You could also use an app such as Duolingo for example.

Play a game on your phone/tablet

Our tech items have become part of our everyday life. We have our phones with us wherever we go, so obviously, we also bring them with us on our trips.

One of the perks of having a smartphone or a tablet with you is that you can play games on them. There are lots of different games to choose from and you can choose to play alone or with friends.

Watch a movie

You can watch movies on your smartphone or on a laptop. We love watching Netflix series, but if you’re traveling with kids Disney Plus is a great option.

Just choose a movie that everyone wants to see and enjoy a couple of hours of entertainment.

Meditate

This one might not be for everyone, but if you’re feeling anxious or restless, maybe a bit of meditation could help you. Meditation has a lot of health benefits and you can do it anywhere.

You don’t need to be on a yoga mat or in a perfectly silent space to meditate. In fact, you can do it wherever you are and still be able to relax.

You could also use some meditation audios available online. No need to search a lot, just go on YouTube and type in meditation and you’ll get tons of results.
